Important Dates for Plein Air–Easton! Artists in March

The deadline to enter the 6th Annual Plein Air–Easton! Competition is March 6, 2010 by 5:00 p.m. Artist’s Prospectus and submission guidelines are available at www.pleinaireaston.com. Entries may be submitted by online upload or by CD mailed/delivered to the address shown below. Accepted artists and alternates will be announced March 27, 2010 via posting at www.pleinaireaston.com. 4th Annual Denton Spring Gala Call for Artists!
The fourth annual Denton Spring Gala has been scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. (rain or shine). This progressive event throughout Denton’s Downtown Business District will feature artists, wine & beer samplings, and live music from the Big Joe Maher Jazz Ensemble.
Artists can choose to be located in an inside Market Street venue or at a central outside location (an alternative indoor location will be provided if there is inclement weather). A list of participating artists and their locations will be included on the Spring Gala map which will be provided to all attendees.
The Spring Gala will be a great opportunity for the community to get together, enjoy downtown Denton, and interact with the local businesses and artists. Participating artists are encouraged to provide an “art experience” opportunity by offering a demonstration of their craft or an interactive activity that involves their art form.
Download the artist registration form here. Artists working in any art medium and style are invited to submit photos of their work (or website information) for review and consideration. Either hard copy photos or digital photos are acceptable. Please send photos (no more than 5) and completed registration form to ccartscouncil@verizon.net or to the Caroline County Council of Arts, Inc., c/o Marina Dowdall, PO Box 292, Denton, Maryland 21629.
All artists will be contacted by phone or email. Send ONLY photos and the signed, completed Registration Form; do not send actual items. Photos will not be returned.
The registration fee includes use of an approximate 10x10 space with access to an electrical outlet. The artist is responsible for their own lighting but may rent a table, in advance, if needed. The registration fee also covers admission to the event for the one participating artist. Any additional guests will need to purchase a separate Spring Gala ticket ($15.00 in advance, $20.00 at the door).
Artists are also encouraged to contribute an item for the silent auction that will be held at the event.
1st Annual Paddlefest Call for Artists!
The first annual Paddlefest on the Choptank has been scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. (rain or shine). Presented by the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce, this free family‐friendly festival takes place on the grounds of Choptank River Yacht Club in Denton after a morning 7.7 mile paddle from Greensboro to Denton. The festival celebrates the Choptank River and will include live entertainment, food, kayak rolling and bass fishing demonstrations, wildlife and Indian cultural exhibits, artisan booths, a Paddle Art auction, and much more.
The public is invited to enter the Paddle Art Auction, presented by the Caroline County Council of Arts (CCCA). Using their artistic talents, entrants can carve, decorate, paint, mosaic, and/or artistically enhance a wooden boat oar or paddle. Paddles/oars of any size, new or salvaged, may be used. Both individual and team entries will be accepted. A limited supply of paddles/oars will be available from the CCCA at cost on a first come first serve basis.
The Paddle Art registration form must be received by April 15th, 2010. There is no cost to enter. The Paddle Art must be received by April 30th. There will be a preview display of the Paddle Art at the Denton Spring Gala on Saturday May 1st from 5‐9pm.
The Paddle Art Silent Auction will take place at Paddlefest on Saturday May 15th from 2‐4pm. Each entrant will receive 50% of the winning bid for their Paddle Art entry, the remaining 50% will be donated to the Caroline County Council of Arts (25%) and the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce (25%).

Summerfest 2010 Call for Entertainment
The 22nd Annual Caroline Summerfest is seeking Entertainment submissions for performers at this year's event, to take place on August 20 & 21, 2010. Download a copy of the application here. Application DEADLINE is April 15, 2010. Caroline Summerfest is a free family arts & entertainment festival that attracts 12,000-15,000 to a quintessential small town on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Production includes three performance stages, street performers, 20 exclusive street vendor locations for juried fine arts and hand-craft vendors, food sales and gaming events benefiting local non-profits and an area exclusively dedicated to interactive visual and performing art activities for families.

Artists and Artisans Wanted
PURPOSE
The Caroline County Council of Arts, Inc. is committed to enhancing the cultural, educational, and economic growth of the diverse people and communities of our county through community arts development. The purpose of the Gallery is to support artists/artisans and the community by providing a retail space/venue where the public can experience and purchase local artwork.
- Displayed artwork will be of good quality from a variety of artists;
- Other activities/events of an artistic nature may be offered;
- Generated revenues will contribute to Gallery expenses and overhead.
QUALIFICATIONS & TERMS OF PARTICIPATION
Who Qualifies:
- Artists/Artisans who reside, work, attend school or own property in Caroline County, or who are invited to exhibit by the Gallery Committee;
- Artists/Artisans who are dues-paying members of the Caroline County Council of Arts;
- Artists/Artisans who are juried and approved by the Gallery Jury Committee.
Artists not filling the above qualifications may apply for special consideration to the Gallery Committee.
Jurying:
- New or beginning artists, or those unknown to the Gallery Jury Committee, will be juried in by the piece until they establish a record quality of work.
- Artists/Artisans applying to the Gallery will submit at least three representative pieces of work for jurying. Submission may be by photograph or artwork may be dropped off by appointment. Artists will be notified within one week after the jury makes a decision and will have an additional week to pick up any work not accepted. All work must be ready for display when submitted (see separate criteria).
- Each artist will be juried on each medium submitted.
- Work will be juried by a committee of three members consisting of the Gallery Committee Chairperson, the Arts Council Executive Director, and an artist appointed by the Executive Director.
- Work must be the Artist’s own work, involve a creative process, and may not be assembled directly from a kit.
