| I build contemporary ceramic vessels in high-fire stoneware, using coils and slabs. have spent much of my life in Asia and Africa. I feel my artwork is influenced by Southeast Asian and West African aesthetics, particularly the simplicity of traditional storage vessels, such as water jars and beer pots. I am drawn to their roundness and their gentle curves, which I try to repeat in my work. While my pieces may echo traditional functional forms and incorporate traditional techniques, they are not designed to be faithful replicas of traditional utilitarian pots. Many of my pieces are finished inside so they can be used functionally, but their main purpose is to serve as objects of appreciation. |
