Jewelry designer Barbara Martin is a native of Washington, D.C. Although she has lived abroad and traveled extensively around the world, she settled in Denton seven years ago.
Barbara was introduced to jewelry design four years ago through classes at a local bead shop. This “hobby” quickly became a consuming devotion to craft and addiction to beads of all kinds and sizes. Since that first class, Barbara has expanded her knowledge and improved her skills by attending workshops at the 2006 Bead and Button Show, where she studied under such well-known artists as Arlene Fisch, Celie Fago, Jeannette Cook, and Mary Hettmansperger
More recently, Barbara studied under wire artist Nadine Fidelman and polymer clay artist Louise Fisher Cozzi. For the past three years, Barbara has attended the Tucson Gem Show to explore the latest trends in jewelry design and discover the latest discoveries in the gemstone industry. She is a member of the Caroline County Arts Council.
Currently, Barbara’s work can be found at The Foundry in Denton and Greensborough Trading Company, as well as Gifts Inn, Boonsboro.
